Happiness reached walking (1986-92)
The series was started the year of the death of the artist’s mother. Germano Celant describes it in these terms: ‘his images revoke the time of the memories, in particular of his childhood, the fears, the dreams, the fragile carefreeness. In his poetry Montale speaks about a happiness hanging by a thread, which can therefore break easily and will someday take flight, to leave disillusion in its place. Giacomelli observes that the division in verses already wants to be misleading: “as you walk”, in fact belongs to the second line, which denies the first one: happiness that originally seemed to be reached, happiness so difficult to maintain, it transmutes in a walk towards the uncertainty of tomorrow’ (in Mario Giacomelli, Ed. Photology-Logos, 2001).
