This series of Abstractions is totally removed from the idea of a visible object defined and posited by linear description. Instead, it offers visions of liberation. Giacomelli allows himself to be transported along journeys through his interiority, and his photography simply retraces this movement.
It is possible to trace an affinity with Art Informel in the way Giacomelli channels every element towards a vision of totality, in the way he explores surface textures as the dynamic space of material signs, and in his distinctly gestural mode of working. What truly captures Giacomelli’s vision, above all his other quotations, is his notion of ‘getting under the skin of reality’. He is like a tightrope walker who, when he plummets from his line into the abyss below, discovers infinity.
