The series Cremonini gathers together a substantial selection of photographs taken at an abandoned farmhouse in Sant’Angelo in Senigallia between 1994 and 1997. The farmhouse is an isolated location, set between the hills and fields, which allowed Giacomelli to assemble his imagined scenes in the courtyard undisturbed. As if in a dream, he too appears in the scenes: he used a remote shutter release and positioned himself among his “poetic companions” (puppets, masks, fake animals, which became the only subjects of his later work). In this latter period, memories resurface with a dreamlike consistency and Giacomelli expresses them through symbols.
From the mid 1990s onwards, Giacomelli concentrated on this interior journeying. The absence of a human subject (substituted by his “poetic companions”) means the scene of each photograph becomes an open-air theatre immersed in silence. From this practice there emerged the series 31 Dicembre (31st December), Autoritratti (Self-portraits), Bucci, Ricordi di un ragazzo del ‘25 (Memories of a boy from 1925), Questo ricordo lo vorrei raccontare (I’d like to tell you about this memory), La domenica prima (The Sunday before).
